How to properly search for information in our search engine

Below are search query language operators that you may need when searching for information:

  1. 1. By default, our search engine places the logical OR operator between all query words. However, if you need one of the words to be present in the search results, then put the AND operator in front of it:

    CRM software AND online

To search for content that uses one of the terms specified in the query, use the operator OR or | (vertical bar). The operators work the same, so you can use any of them. Important! The operator should be written in upper case (OR) to prevent the search engine from mistaking it for a regular keyword.

  2. 2. If the query contains a word or term that you want to exclude from the search results and not associate it with the entered query, you should insert a – (minus) sign in front of this word:

    create website -agency
    online advertising -google
  3. 3. The * operator can search for pages with a query that also contains an arbitrary or unknown word/phrase. Usage example: get *loan. As a result, you will see pages with the queries “get” and “loan”, between which there are one or more words. That is, the * operator can replace any number of words that are between the entered phrases or words.
    get *loan

  4. 4. When you enclose a query in quotation marks, the search engine will look for an exact match of the entered phrase or word in the results. The search operator “ ” (quotes) is useful because it does not look for synonyms, but instead looks for the exact use of a word or phrase. It allows you to find out, for example, whether your content is being used elsewhere by unscrupulous users:
    "bank account"

  5. 5. Site operator: allows you to limit the search to pages of a specified resource. With its help, you can find out whether your content is unique or whether there are duplicates on competitors’ sites (combination with the exact match operator “ ), quickly check the site’s indexing, search for documents and files on resource pages (combination with filetype:), find donor sites for external publications (combination with intext:), pages with a keyword in the title (combination with allintitle:) and much more.

  6. 6. The () operator allows you to group multiple queries or statements. In the example, we will see a combination of search operators OR and ( ), where one of the keys, cloud storage or insurance, is displayed, in combination with online:

    (cloud storage OR insurance) online
  7. 7. The map operator is used to search for a query using maps:
    map:california
